Say "No" to carckers

A growing number of scholars and people debate the need and justification of using fire crackers to celebrate Diwali for a number of reaons.

1) The amount of money that goes into the flames every year in the name of celebrations towards the purchase of firecrackers.

2) Many companies that are engaged in the manufacturing of these firecrackers set to employ child labor and hardly follow the safety rules or welfare measures.

3) There is hardly any control on the quality of fire crackers manufactured by these companies which aften results in injuries and deaths due to accidents or poor performance.

4) Fire crackers are a source of severe sound and air pollution,. The amount of damage they do the air, land and water is humogonous and it is highly unrepairable. We have no right to injure the already injured nature at our will and wish.

If we can seperate emotion and prejudice and take a closer look at this issue objectively, it makes sense to argue that by minimizing thefire crackers, it is worth spending the amount of money saved for some good cause that leads to some long term positive social benefit.

Readers are requested to note that my observations are in reference to the use of fire crackers and not to the observation of Diwali as a festivel of lights.

The question is whether we should use fire crackers on this occassion on such massive scale and invite trouble to ourselves and environment.

Details Of Talents Day - 2010

The Talents Day - 2010 was held successfully on December 4th 2010. The event started at 10:30 am with a welcome speech by Akshith. Vishwas gave a flying start to the event by giving a seminar on "Sixth sense Technology". The seminar had a clear cut duration of 22 minutes. What a seminar it was! Awesome! He received heavy applause to it. Later another seminar was given by the duo of Madhu and Bhargav on the topic "World Of Careers". It was a kind of responsible and worth listening seminar. The seminar was about 15 minutes long. Sunil helped us a lot in execution of the seminar.

Next we had a Talents Examination. Separate papers were set for class 9 and 10. The papers were set by Rajath S. Contained both objective and subjective type questions. The invigilators for the exam were Rajath, Akshith, Bharath and Suraj. Deepan, Likith, Akhil and Sujay helped in correcting the papers. It was already 12:30. And we moved for lunch.

At 1:15 we started off simultaneously with sports and Thematic Drawing competition. The theme was given on the spot. And the theme was "under water". Rajath and Rajakiran looked after it. Whereas in the sports event was organised by Girish, Harish, Kalyan, Bharath, Akshith, Suraj, Deepan, Akhil, Likith and Sujay. Madhu and Bhargav were the scorers. Sports event contained a track event and push ups for boys. Whereas for girls it was track event and sit ups.

The event ended on a thumping note with a joyous photo session at 2:30 pm. Rajath was the man behind the organisation of this entire event. The Talents Day - 2010 was the brain child of Rajath. A great idea. And the batch 2009-10 has to be appreciated for their keen interest in alumni related activities. Definitely we as seniors have to learn a lot from our juniors. Their efficient handling of this entire event is a staggering proof for my above sentence.

Thanks to Girish, Harish, Kalyan, Vishwas, Sunil, Rajakiran and Madhu for their kind co coperation in oragnising this event. They overlooked many of the events and were very much concerned about the detailing of each and every event.

On d selfish side, i would also like to thank myself. Reasons: Dont know exactly.

Talent Examination:

1st Prize - Shyam B.S.
2nd Prize – Vineeth K.S.

Gone are the days!!!

These beautiful lines was recited by alumni on 2008 School day celebrations...
Most of us would agree that the days we spent in high school were certainly the best days of our lives. It was in school that we made our first friends, competed to excel, hoped for places in the sports teams, and learnt our first lessons about life. Emotions, drama, broken hearts, and lies. And they say these were the best days of our lives.

Gone are the days!!!

When the school reopened in June,
and we settled in our new desks and benches.

When we queued up in book depot,
and got our new books and notes.

When we wanted two Sundays and no Mondays,
yet managed to line up daily for the morning prayers.

When we learnt writing with pencils and
Progressed to fountain pens and ball pens and then Micro tips!

When we started calculating first with fingers and
then with Clarke's tables and advanced to Calculators and computers!

When we chased one another in the corridors in Intervals,
and returned to the classrooms drenched in sweat.

When we had lunch in classrooms, corridors,
Playgrounds and even under the trees.

When all the colours dresses in the world,
Decorated the campus on the Saturdays!

When a single P.T. period in the week's Time Table,
Was awaited more eagerly than the monsoons!

When cricket was played with writing pads as bats,
and ties and socks rolled into balls!

When few played throw ball and volleyballs in the scorching sun,
while others simply played book cricket in the Confines of classroom.

Of fights but no conspiracies!
Of Competitions but seldom jealousy!

When few rushed at 4.30 to Conquer window seats in our School bus!
While few others had a flavour of standing near the door.

Gone are the days Of Sports Day and the annual school day,
and the one-month long preparations for them.

Gone are the days of stressful quarterly, half yearly and annual exams
and the most enjoyed holidays after them!

Gone are the days of ninth and tenth standards, when
we spent almost the whole year writing revision tests!

We learnt,
We enjoyed,
We played,
We won,
We lost,
We laughed,
We cried,
We fought,
We thought.

With so much fun in them, so many friends,
So much experience, all this and more!

Gone are the days when we used to talk for hours with our friends!
Now we don't have time to say a 'Hi'.

Gone are the days when we played games on the road.
Now we just travel on the road with our vehicles.

Gone are the days when we saw stars shining at night.
Now we see stars when our plans don’t work.

Gone are the days when we sat to chat with Friends on grounds.
Now we chat in chat rooms.

Gone are the days where we had no money in our pockets and still fun filled on our hearts!!
Now we have the purse as well as credit card but with an empty heart.

Gone are the days where we got lectures from all!
Now we give lectures to all; like the one I'm doing now.

Gone are the days, but not the memories,
which will be hanging in our hearts forever and ever and ever.

Get2Gether 3.0 (My Experiences, My Version)

Introduction

The fundamental character of any volunteer is that there is a constant desire to express, plan, discuss, debate and in turn organise the event irrespective of problems back home or support from alumnus. It’s with that basic desire I am writing this article in order to share my experience (Get2Gether 3.0) from a humble, light-hearted, simple Get2Gether 2.0 to a successful, loaded, grand, tiring and emotional Get2Gteher 3.0.

Inspirations

Right after Get2Gether 2.0, we were very puzzled in terms, what should be our plans as volunteers. We had ample time for the third attempt as v wanted to continue our job in order to keep in touch with our beloved school and socialise with all our old friends.
To me every Get2Gether has to be a learning experience i.e., understanding pulse of alumni, coming out with creative ideas and how to face the financial challenges. Let me tell u, after becoming a volunteer, I really learned a lot. I learned how to come up with cost cutting measures, I learned how to face challenges, I truly understood d value of money and I was also able to understand the nature of many people.
Before planning Get2Gether 3.0, we were only looking at the fundamental definition of a plan and what makes it grand. Out of the influences of great events like Get2Gether 1.0 and Get2Gether 2.0; what we have realized as one of the consistent ingredients in these events was ideas and the life behind them, which makes it more than what we see visually.

Development

Planning is the most laborious phase in the process of organising a Get2Gether as you have to constantly keep answering the critic within to justify each and every idea, step, decision and suggestion that keeps the event evolving and revealing. In my view its lot easier to organise a college fest without feel, focusing on the programs rather than organising a Get2Gteher where a feel of nostalgia has to be evoked and lot of meaning has to be added. We committed ourselves, to evoke as much feel as possible without compromising on the grandness of the event. Yet there was some insecurity in our team on the idea of evoking that nostalgic feel each and every time we organised Get2Gether. We had this insecurity till the event date.
Towards the final draft of the plans, volunteers were ready to organise the event but concerned about the financial assistance. So I had to repeatedly remind the volunteers about the various sources through which we can get the money.
Once our volunteers were confident, we started to implement our plans. Thus giving birth to Get2Gether 3.0

Finance

No doubt, that we had more than what can chew in executing this kind of Get2Gether with little financial assistance and very few volunteers, it almost had to be a mammoth attempt. The only way we could organise it successfully was by getting some great ideas into play that can make the event colourful.
Based on the response and my own analysis, I can conceive three reasons why we didn’t get proper financial assistance for the event –
1. Many might have thought giving money is not required; as school will give complete financial assistance.
2. Many just postponed their plans of giving money to us because they felt Get2Gether’s are not so important in their daily calendar of events.
3. A crazy mad dog had spread a wrong message among his friend that we were misusing the funds of Get2Gether.
So we realized that these reasons have to be proved otherwise in order for us to organise the event successfully. We decided to go ahead in organising the event despite the financial risks. Very fortunate to have a principal and chairman who were at times more passionate about the Get2Gether than the alumnus themselves.
Once we decided to go ahead in organising the event we thought we should never retreat nor surrender. We started implementing our plans step by step. Since we didn’t have enough money, now our major challenge is to keep the budget of the event as low as possible which itself is a 20-30% risk if the event doesn’t get financial assistance on the event day also.
Thus our planning for Get2Gether 3.0 started with serious doubts on financial justification of the event.

Stage 1

Having a great idea, we thought it would be a sin if we can’t do a proper planning before hitting the floors. But in our alumni association, there are more talkers than walkers. I kept losing my time on false promises from many alumni and one fine day we realized that we have to carry forward into implementation of our plans with a rough shot list of volunteers since the budget meter was already started ticking. It was with the immense confidence that Madhu (Director of S.K.V.E.S. Alumni Association) had on our volunteers, we pushed ourselves forward, half-prepared. He wanted a good Get2Gether and at the same time didn’t want to give a free hand for waste spending. Thus the most challenging job of our life; organising the Get2Gether 3.0 started.

Stage 2

Right from day one of “getting permissions from school” to “preparing the video footage on tigers” we had to face a chaotic atmosphere in fighting for quality of the event on one side and keeping the budget under control on the other side.
Initially it was Anil and Vishwas who got involved actively in organising the event. But, after few days, we had to take a break because of our busy schedules. It was during that unforeseen break, a fortune happened. It was Manjunath, Roopa and Vidyasagar. They were great; not because of their innovative ideas but because of their sensitive reception of the “Save Our Tigers” initiative. They were great, not because of their constant feedbacks, but because of emotional attachment they had to the event.
Later Pradeep joined the party. He came up with some of the coolest designs and animations that would help the event to be more colourful. Without any hesitation he would answer my phone call, even when he was busy. He had some of the coolest set of ideas and he did his best in mailing the invitations to the alumnus.
We regrouped and we connected with each other like age old friends right from the moment we started speaking. Though we had re-started with a lot of excitement and enthusiasm we still had very less amount of money in our hands.
Special mention to Girish. I still remember how much care he takes to get the perfect working stills of the alumnus. He was very helpful in preparing the “Behind the scenes” video, which came out so well. He makes sure that the video footage and still photographs come with best quality. He handles the cameras like a mother holds a new born baby. He was really helpful in negotiating the orders for mementos too. I, Girish, Roopa and Vidya Sagar roamed the busy streets of B.V.K. Iyengar road under the scorching sunlight to order the mementos.
And Lohith. He is a rock star. Though he was very busy with his civil service exam preparations, he was the guy who used to always enlighten me. He patiently listened to what all ideas we had, and he used to bounce back with better ideas. At the initial stages of implementing our plans, he was not present physically, but he made sure that we are taking the best possible routes in achieving the task.
These were very few of our pains and struggles we faced initially, from our busy schedules to not so encouraging finances, with several ironical decisions made to save a penny. Everywhere the problems kept haunting us with more spending throughout the project.
Thus, with little money in hand and lot of problems around, our final stages of organising the Get2Gether 3.0 had started.

Stage 3

With a lot of baggage and dried pockets, we had to carry forward to keep up the quality of the event and live up to the demands of the plans in terms of feel, entertainment and meaning. We had the toughest phase of our journey during the final stages of organising. I call it toughest because there was too much time wasted and too much of our work compromised. Yet we did our best in maintaining the integrity of the event.
Special mention to Anil and Vishwas. These two guys never get tiered. They keep on working and working. I don’t know how many times these two had missed their meal while working for the event. Manjunath and Vidya Sagar did their best in coming up with the most creative ideas. When we went totally blank, these two people would enlighten us. Sometimes I felt that how nice it would have been, if I had the brains of these two people.
If it was not for our volunteers, Shamanth, Harish and Kalyan; I sincerely doubt if Get2Gether 3.0 would have come to the launch date. They are the coolest people I have ever met in my life and they are very sensitive and sensible human beings. No matter how much we tortured them, during the final stages of the preparations, they were still with us till the end. With a total budget of 40 thousand (thanks to Shamanth, Harish and Kalyan; with whom more than 2 thousand worth of last minute savings could be negotiated), we launched the Get2Gether 3.0.
With considerable deficit, we were keeping our fingers crossed about the attendance to the event, amidst many problems, entirely depending upon the mood of the alumnus on that day. Our plans of launching Get2gether 3.0 had been done, with our minds and bodies tired, hopes rising at every step of the way.

Response

It took us a couple of hours to really believe how much of an impact the event would have on the alumni. Two hours after the event started, we were confirmed that the event had a decent turnout and will take at least two more hours to expect more alumnus. Historically these kinds of events take time to sink in to the minds of alumnus since it depends entirely on how the talk has spread about the event. We could have been a bit smarter by giving a better publicity to the event. It’s a vital lesson learnt!

Conclusion

Out of all the great personalities embossed in my heart that kept us moving forward, the first person I would like to thank is Madhu, to whom I would answer a call any day keeping my personal needs aside. The event is an unquestionable proof of his unwavering character and uncontaminated passion for a meaningful event.
With an immense response, applause and pouring congratulatory messages, our bodies are healing and our minds are gaining focus towards the next step of arranging Get2Gether 4.0.
From the depth of our heart we like to thank the following people: Bhavana, Girish, Harish, Kalyan, Lohith, Madhu, Pavan, Pradeep, Sandhya, Shamanth, Sindhu, Chaitra, Rajakiran, Manjunath, Rakesh, Roopa, Santosh, Shourya, Vidya Sagar, Anil, Ashwini, Srinath, Vinay, Vishwas, Prajwala, Madan Kumar, Khizar, Shree Surya, Abhishek, Tejaswini, Akshith, Bharath, Rajath and Suraj. This Get2Gether would not have been possible without their support.

Seminar (2009)

September 23rd 2009. D day dat i keep constantly remembering. Now & probably in future too. D day dat created jitters in our minds.. D day when many ppl had been eagerly waiting. D day when v felt very happy. And d day on which v were dissappointed too.

On May 1st 2009, madhu went on record saying dat d S.K.V.E.S. alumni would be taking up responsibility in giving atleast 2 seminars per year for our school juniors. Few looked surprised, pessimists didnt believe it & optimists thought it was rather a good idea. I was d one guy who was surprised. When those lines told by madhu went on air; i was surprised. "Is dis possible?", "what on earth had made madhu 2 commit 2 dis?". Though i clapped at dat moment, a lot was going in2 my mind.. But, when i looked in2 madhu's eyes; something told me dat he was fucking serious abt it..Looking in2 eyes & predicting d seriousness; though sounds very filmy, but i swear its true.

August 4th 2009, madhu & i had a conversation on phone. At d end he mentioned abt d seminar. And in true filmy style, he told dat he is expecting something concrete frm me. A good twist in d tale. Na?? In d wildest of ma dreams i never expected myself 2 give seminars for ma juiniors. But, his words again fell on ma ears so hard, dat i got committed.. Madhu, a true mesmeriser.!

I was constantly working on d topics dat would b great for our juniors. And in d same manner lohith was doing it too. I guess even lohith had d same effect as i had, when i lisened 2 madhu's words. Dis might hv committed him too.. My junior vinutha was constantly giving me feedbacks on d topics i would keep mentioning 2 her.. She kept on posting me wid her suggestions.

September 7th 2009. D day madhu told dat he got d date confirmed for d seminar.
No..!! Dis time i was not surprised. Cuz i got used 2 it.. D date he mentioned was 23rd september 2009. Dont know wheather its a good date or d bad 1 according astrology.Though i dont believe in god nor in fucking astrolology.. But i thought i wanted 2 think fast.

Someday in september 2009. Dont know d exact date as i hv a really bad memory. Myself, Madhu, Lohith, Pradeep and Pavan met in Sahakarnagar in bangalore. We discussed about the topics for d seminars and got ourselves confirmed. And we were able to please the school staff too.. At d end of our little round table conference on dat day v had taken a good surprise decision.. And the guy reason for it was "The Dance King", "Super star", "Megastar"..Call him whatever u want; he is none other than pradeep.. He agreed for showing some video footage on d day of seminar.. When v enquired, what it would b abt; In a true filmy style he said "Wait & See". ("Holy shit".. This was d word dat went through my mind, when i heard his lines).

September 22nd 2009.. Myself in bangalore, lohith in sahakarnagar and madhu in devanahalli.. All 3 were still unprepared for seminar.. I was still busy making powerpoint presentations.. Lohith was busy in editing slides an madhu was busy in his office work.. Christ..!! We are all fucking lazy.. How could this happen? No1 is still prepared? And der was no word from pradeep too.. Did he get lost? Did he run away wid his girlfriend? All these questions were raising in ma mind.. But, i was still confident of making it up on time... I knew the true potential of all ma frens.. As v all guys always study for our exams in d last few hours.. I knew, v vl make it up wid flying bright colours..

September 23rd 2009. Myself, madhu and pradeep in school. we were all welcomed were well by principal, H.M and students. We started installing all the equipment..It was nice to see my batch mates pavan, girish, harish, kalyan, naren, bhavana and sowmya turning up.. Hey bhavana happy birthday.. It was 2 o clock.. Everything was ready for d seminar.. In a tue NASA space ship launching style, we were cross checking all our equipment.. Laptop.. Go Clear.. Projector.. Go clear.. Sound Systems.. Go clear.. Video output.. Go clear.. PPT... Go Clear.. Students.. Go Clear.. Staff.. Go clear.. Lohith.. Absent sir..!!

It was 2:15 pm.. We didnt start the seminar yet.. V were already running 15 minutes late. And v feared a backlash from H.M.. No, this was not going the way v had planned.. Altough v were prepared for d worst of d situations, v never expected this.. Lohith not in action yet. V were told dat lohith is on d way and will make his presence in another 15 mins. Ok fine, v thought of starting off our topics and lohith joining us in between..

As decided earlier i was the person who had to give d seminar first.. Though i was not scared, i thought the reaction of students for ma seminar.. Neverthless, i started giving my seminar. And my topic was "The World Of Careers".. I picked up pace rapidly and managed to complete my seminar within 14 minutes.. By the time lohith had arrived.. We all felt a sigh of relief, as der was no more twists in d tale.. Good..!!

Then, it was madhu.. His topic was "Internet - A Deep Study".. He managed finishing his seminar within 20 minutes.. So far, so good..

It was turn of lohith now.. Though he was late, he never had any signs of tieredness nor he was scared.. He started off. His topic was "Journalism".. An dis guy had taken a clear cut 28 minutes to finish off his seminar..

We all thought it was done..!!! No, but the show went on.. It was "Pradeep".. He put on a video.. And it was truly amazing.. The video dat he had put on was about animation capabilities. He showed the true potential of the animation works dat can b done.. It was a true delight for every1.. A complete feast for eyes..

And v were applauded for our efforts.. Our hearts were swollen, with appreciation pouring in from students and well as staff.. V were done wid our duty.. We had gr8 relief..

Later v all celebrated Bhavana's birthday.. Superb fun in d end.. I always believed in happy endings.. And i thought "This Is It"... But, somewhere v stll felt v missed some good flavour.. We hoped many of our alumni would turn up.. Though v informed about the seminar, sadly, it was only my batch mates who seem to be interested in all the activities conducted by alumni. It had become really routine for us.. We always have empty promises being made by other batches.. Except few, none of them were interested in participating.. Adding to the trouble, many ppl even try to comment about the very functioning of alumni; though they show least signs of participation..

Anyhow, i am proud my batch.. Wheather other batches support or not, v will continue.. We dont wanna b like others.. V dont wanna sit and spend our entire life within the four walls.. V dont wanna spend our life just chatting in our mobiles and mailing to each other.. V r not afraid of this world like u.. V will come out, v will socialise and v will do it in our style.. Not matter what the fuck happens and no matter who d fuck is not gonna support us, v r making our move and v vl make our move..

(We r really greatful to ppl who couldnt attend this seminar due to some genuine reasons.. V hope they would attend in future)

Thanking u,
Signing off with lot of hope..
Bhargi..
